Excitement is building ahead of the 31st Abu Dhabi Striders Half Marathon and 10k as it returns to the iconic Yas Island on Friday, with thousands of participants ready to take on one of the fastest courses in the UAE.
Organised by Abu Dhabi Striders, in partnership with Gulf Multi Sport, the half marathon and 10km event takes place on a mostly flat, IAAF-measured course. The course is one of the most picturesque in the UAE starting at Yas Waterworld, taking in the Yas Plaza, Yas Marina, Ferrari World and Yas Mall, before returning to Yas Waterworld.
"This is the first half marathon of the season and the interest has been amazing with entries selling out six weeks out from the race," said Steve Watson, managing partner of Gulf Multi Sport and member of Abu Dhabi Striders. "There have been several minor changes to the course to keep it fresh and ensure a challenging-yet-fun test for all taking part. The event has proved to be very popular and as the course is straight and fast, we are looking forward to seeing a lot of quick times in our signature event."
The Abu Dhabi Striders Half Marathon and 10km has seen unprecedented growth over the years, from 300 participants in 2009 to 2,000 taking part last year on the event's 30th anniversary.
