Abid Ali's unbeaten knock of 83 helped Pakistan A put up a fighting total of 247 for 7 against Australia, who were inspired by Nathan Lyon's five wicket haul on the opening day of their four-day cricket match at the ICC Cricket Academy in Dubai on Saturday.
Lyon finished with excellent figures of 5 for 87.
The Australians are touring the UAE to play two Tests and three Twenty20 International matches against Pakistan.
Electing to bat first on winning the toss, Pakistan openers, Shan Masood and Sami Aslam put on 24 runs. Masood has been with the Pakistan team since they arrived in the UAE for the Asia Cup.
He was selected after scoring heavily at the domestic level but failed to make any impact as he could muster only 14 runs.
Aslam, a former under 19 captain, scored a valueable knock of 51 in the 82-run partnership along with Abid Ali (83 not out).
Captain Asad Shafiq (14), Iftikhar Ahmed (4) and Usman Salahuddin were dismissed cheaply.
The first Test will be played at the Dubai International stadium from October 7.
