Dubai - 'My earlier tennis venture gave me the opportunity to learn about athletes'

From tennis to cricket, Neelesh Bhatnagar, a venture capitalist based in Dubai, has an ambitious plan for sports and fitness in the region.
Having bought the UAE Royals team in IPTL, the Mahesh Bhupatti-run tennis league, Bhatnagar roped in the likes of Indian cricket captain Virat Kohli to market his team. Unfortunately due to the non viability of the league, the organisers discontinued plans for further seasons.
But that didn't stop Bhatnagar from grabbing the opportunity to own a team in T10.
Bhatnagar is a co-owner of the Delhi Bulls team that will take part in the Abu Dhabi T10 (November 14-24).
"My earlier tennis venture gave me the opportunity to learn about athletes, the demands of a sport, and of course, the commercial side of things. Cricket has not been able to reach out effectively in markets such as Europe and Americas. But the league format of 10 overs and 90 minutes is just what the world needs. This is a great opportunity to attract a new audience," Bhatnagar said.
Bhatnagar is excited about having England's World Cup-winning skipper Eoin Morgan as Icon Player and captain of the Delhi Bulls in Abu Dhabi T10.
"He (Morgan) adds tremendous value to our team. After the England team's debacle at the World Cup in 2015, Morgan, along with Andrew Strauss, set about a cultural change in their approach. That led them to play attacking cricket and eventually won them their first ever World Cup," he said.
"He's fresh off that win, and of course, the fact that he has played T10 already and won it the first year is a bonus.
"Also, we have the same coaching staff led by Stephen Fleming. They will have the same approach. We are confident that they will deliver the results on the ground."
