Dubai 2021 Para Athletics GP: Hosts UAE finish with 15 medals

Dubai - Among the top teams in the medals tally, Thailand returned home with 34 medals, while Turkey, Kenya and India finished with 23 medals.

The UAE para athletes Abbad Ali and Ansaf Alnuaimi claimed a silver and a bronze on the final day as the curtains fell on the 12th Fazza International Championships - Dubai 2021 World Para Athletics Grand Prix on Saturday.

Overall, the hosts finished with 15 medals including two silver by their Paralympic medallist middle-distance racer Mohammed Al Hammadi. They have overall seven silver and eight bronze.


Among the top teams in the medals tally, Thailand returned home with 34 medals, while Turkey, Kenya and India finished with 23 medals. In the men’s discus final F35/37, Ali hurled the discus to a distance of 37.49m to finish second to Lithuania’s Donatas Dundzys (43.14m).

Yelaman Zholaman of Kazakhstan was third with 32.43m. Meanwhile, Alnuaimi threw the Shot Put to a distance of 6.03m to take the bronze behind Morocco’s Saida Amoudi (8.33m) and Bhagyashri Mahavr Jadhav (6.18m).


UAE Paralympic Committee secretary general Theban Salem Al Mheiri was happy with the team’s show. “It was an important competition as the team prepare for Tokyo 2020 Paralympic Games. Also, we want to provide a platform and exposure to new faces. We are happy with the way the team performed here, with many players getting their personal best,” Almhari said
