In what could be an encouraging sign towards stepping into a new normal, the Dubai Sports Council (DSC) issued guidelines on Tuesday, which will pave the way for a gradual return to sport.
A day after the Government of Dubai issued a circular to reopen business activities in the Emirate following the Dubai Supreme Committee of Crisis and Disaster Management meeting chaired by Sheikh Hamdan bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Crown Prince of Dubai, the DSC issued new guidelines for sporting activities in sports facilities.

A 11-point document details the steps that need to be undertaken for sporting activities and sports establishments.
Among them are temperature screening, proper sterilization of equipment, social distancing, use of face masks and activity with a maximum of 50 percent of the facility's normal capacity.
The guidelines, which will come into effect from Wednesday, requires facilities and all tools, equipment, and means of transportation to be sanitised through a certificate issued by a sterilization company approved by the Dubai Municipality.
A permanent sanitization programme shall be put in place, and sanitizers shall be provided in the necessary areas in the establishment, the DSC said.
Physical distance of at least 2 metres must be maintained, and separators/partitions shall be installed between sports equipment, if the nature of the sports activity requires it, to ensure protection of people.
During this time, waiting areas, locker rooms, changing rooms and shower booths will be closed off.
Individuals below the age of 12 and above 60 will not be allowed to practice activities. And individuals who have a cough, temperature, breathing difficulty, respiratory disease or immunodeficiency, will also not be allowed to participate in the sports activities.
The return of activity does not include swimming and water sports centres that are practiced indoor, and the return of the activity in them will be determined later.
The DSC said that the guidelines and instructions issued by health authorities, and updated from time to time, should be observed and strictly followed.
