Bangla Tigers tame Team Abu Dhabi
Bangla Tigers rocked up 129 for the loss of three wickets
The Bangla Tigers bowlers stood out on the night as they got the better of Team Abu Dhabi in their Super League stage of the Aldar Properties Abu Dhabi T10 League on Tuesday night.
Afghanistan leg spinner Qais Ahmed and his captain Thisara Perera snapped up three and two wickets respectively as the Tigers won by 27 runs at the Zayed Cricket Stadium.
Earlier, the Bangla Tigers rocked up 129 for the loss of three wickets in their 10 overs after Team Abu Dhabi skipper Moeen Ali told them to set the marker.
And openers Andre Fletcher and Rilee Rossouw got them off to a bit of a cracker, with the former in a more rollicking mood.
The West Indian, who had coshed 40 against the Karnataka Tuskers on Monday night, followed that up with a blitzkrieg of 42 from just 16 deliveries with five lusty ones above the ropes and two boundaries.
He was the lead act among the two early on with Fletcher scoring almost the whole chunk of their opening stand worth 45.
Fletcher looked good for more but Marchant de Lange had him caught by Avishka Fernando and to put an end to the association.
Rossouw and his South African countryman Colin Ingram then ensured that the platform that had been built would not be left undone.
The pair put on 53 runs for the second wicket before the Bangla Tigers endured twin blows. Ingram was castled by Ben Laughlin after he had made a 14-ball 23 with the help of five boundaries, while wicketkeeper-batsman Tom Moores too was cleaned up for nought.
Rossouw and Robbie Frylinck then past the 100-run mark and to a good total of 129. Their unbroken partnership was worth 31 runs with Rossouw coming up with a brisk 44 from 21 balls that had four boundaries and two sixes.
Frylinck made 12 from eight balls and had one maximum.
Laughlin took two from 12.
Team Abu Dhabi made a good start to the chase with the openers Avishka Fernando and Luke Wright putting on 37 for the first wicket.
But the latter was out after a 10-ball 20 that had two sixes and a lone boundary after he was caught by Qais Ahmed off David Wiese's bowling.
Captain Moeen Ali made a scratchy five from eight balls but he fell while trying to force the pace. The pinch-hitting batsman danced down the track to loft Qais Ahmed but the Afghan leg spinner managed to fox the Englishman. Moeen had to return to the dug-out after being stumped by Moores.
Fernando's productive stay came to an end a little later after the Sri Lankan was caught by compatriot and opposition skipper Thisara Perera, also off Qais Ahmed.
Team Abu Dhabi then came under the sheer weight of the run rate and could only make 102 for six in their 10 overs.
Bangla Tigers: 129 for 3 in 10 overs (Rilee Rossouw 44, Andre Fletcher 42, Colin Ingram 23, Robbie Frylinck 12 not out, Ben Laughlin 2-12) beat Team Abu Dhabi: 102 for 6 in 10 overs (Avishka Fernando 51, Luke Wright 20, Qais Ahmed 3-8, Thisara Perera 2-21) by 27 runs.
