Jorge Navarro has an unfinished business in Dubai. Having narrowly failed to grab the winner's cheque twice in the past three years, the Florida-based trainer hopes to hit the jackpot at Meydan on Saturday.
In X Y JET, Navarro has a horse that has the experience of racing at Meydan, having finished second to Mind Your Biscuits last year in the Dubai Golden Shaheen.
Fresh from an impressive victory on the dirt last month, X Y JET has now arrived in Dubai as one of the favourites to win $2.5 million race.
"Yes, I am very confident. He has come around at the right time. This - Dubai - was our main goal. My horse is in really good condition now, said Navarro who hopes to end his Dubai jinx.
"It is an unfinished business. X Y JET raced against top quality animals last year. He is in better form now. I call him my little Ferrari. I am pretty confident this time about his chances."
But Navarro said he would not come up with any excuses if the seven-year-old American horse failed to win on Saturday.
"This year it's more about the details because he is a trouble maker. He is always trying to do something. We are just taking our time in everything we do. We are just making sure there are no excuses this year," he said.
"In the past, something or the other has happened before the race. This time we are trying to prevent everything."
Navarro then revealed how he has prepared X Y JET for Saturday.
"Today just to walk him to the track, he took his sweet time. I told my guys not to rush him. Whatever he wants to do, I am not going to get on his way," he said.
"If we try something new on him in Dubai, it's not going to work. Of course, we have to be ready. And I believe my horse is ready for the race."
While praising the qualities of Roy H and Imperial Hint, Navarro declared that no-one could come close to X Y JET. "On speed, I think I have the fastest horse. I think it will be a special race," he said.
"Roy H is obviously a top sprinter. We have to respect that. Imperial Hint is also a top horse. So if my horse wins against these horses, it will be amazing."
