Williams Deputy Team Principal Claire Williams arrives for practice

Deputy team principal Claire Williams is confident

Williams - one of the only four Formula One teams to have recorded over 100 race wins - are now reeling in the pits. This season, they have 1 point as a team - earned by outgoing driver Robert Kubica in Germany. However, deputy team principal Claire Williams is confident that latest inclusion of Formula 2's star Nicholas Latifi alongside George Russell will transform the British team's fortunes. As of now, Latifi is second in the F2 championship with last rounds left on Saturday and Sunday.
"Nicholas is an obvious choice for us. He has been with us now this year as our reserve driver. He's done six FP1s (free practice sessions) for us and some test sessions. He'll run next week at the Abu Dhabi test. He's just become a really great part of the team. And from a track performance perspective, he's done a good job in the F2 campaign this year. He'll be instrumental in driving the team forward. He's got a very similar personality to George, who has proved motivating for everybody in the team. Nicholas will fully mirror that next year," Claire said.
Elaborating on the road ahead, Claire felt the next two seasons with new rules in place from 2021 will make operations 'challenging'.
"It's a real challenge back at the factory trying to run those two programmes for next year and 2021. We continue to bring upgrades to the car over the course of this season. We are looking at 2019 and 2020 as one long campaign. So it's difficult but we want 2021 regulations to come in.
