Former 26-year-old Arsenal striker, Benik Afobe, announced the death of his two-year-old daughter following a severe infection.
According to reports in Daily Mail, Afobe's first child Amora passed away on Friday due to a number of serious complications following a severe infection. A statement confirmed that 'despite doctors doing absolutely everything, she passed away peacefully with the love of her family by her side'.
Amora had been previously photographed on the pitch with Afobe kissing her on her cheek while posing for shutterbugs. 'The entire family have been left totally devastated and heartbroken', the statement further said.
After the tragic news, several from the football world paid their tributes on Twitter. Afobe's former club Wolves tweeted: 'Our hearts break for Benik Afobe and his family following the tragic news of his daughter's passing this weekend. The Wolves family are with you, Benik'.
While, Bristol City tweeted: 'The thoughts and prayers of everyone at Bristol City are with Benik and his wife Lois at this tragic time. We cannot imagine the heartache they are feeling and we will do all we can to support them'.
Afobe, who is currently on loan at Bristol City, is out injured for the remainder of the season after suffering a freak ACL injury in training.
