'The Australian batter also thinks 'there's no one better in India to have behind the stumps'
Delhi Capitals, looking good to finish either no. 1 or 2 in the points table for the better part of five weeks, have been tottering in the past fortnight. Three defeats on the trot, while it may not cost them a place in the playoffs, has made their prospects of finishing 1 or 2 vulnerable.
What’s gone suddenly wrong with Delhi Capitals?
Fundamentally, the top order’s flair, which had made them the most exciting team to watch, appears to have fizzled out. This despite Shikhar Dhawan hitting two centuries and Shreyas Iyer looking in decent touch.
Prithvi Shaw hit a trough, lost his place, and his replacement as opener, Ajinkya Rahane, has struggled for form. This has robbed the batting of solidity, and has put greater pressure on not just Iyer but also Marcus Stonis and Shimron Hetmyer.
While the bowling’s been more consistent, it can’t be overlooked that in the previous two matches, Kagiso Rabada has gone for plenty without picking up wickets, and Anrich Nortje and Ravichandran Ashwin haven’t been able to curb the opponents from scoring freely.
Mumbai Indians, on the other hand, have absorbed two defeats and returned to their best form, in spite of not having the services of ace batsman and captain Rohit Sharma.
Quinton de Kock, Ishan Kishan, Suryakumar Yadav, Hardik Pandya and Keiron Pollard have not let Rohit’s absence affect the team’s batting performance.
In the bowling, Jasprit Bumrah has reached red hot form which would the dread of any opposing side. Trent Boult, Rahul Chahar and Pollard have been splendid in support.
Delhi have to hit prime form to stop the Mumbai juggernaut.
