Arabians outclass Tigers
With that thumping win, Maratha Arabians earned themselves a place in the Eliminator against Northern Warriors
Maratha Arabians, who needed a last-match win in the Super League stage to enter the qualifiers, beat Bengal Tigers by seven wickets to keep their final hopes alive.
With that thumping win, Maratha Arabians earned themselves a place in the Eliminator against Northern Warriors.
The hero of Maratha Warriors' stunning win over the Tigers was Alex Hales (87 not out, 32 balls, 6 fours, 8 sixes). Chasing 136, Hales, the England opener, launched a brutal attack on the Tigers as he hit sixes for fun.
Despite losing two quick wickets - Hazratullah Zazai (9) and Najibullah Zadran (0) - Hales never had any trouble handling the pressure of the steep asking rate.
Hales shared 71 runs for the third wicket with Pakistan wicketkeeper-batsman Kamran Akmal (13, 8 balls, 1 four, 1 six) in 25 balls.
But such was Hales dominance that Akmal rarely got the strike.
Then captain Dwayne Bravo (27 not out, 9 balls, 3 sixes) enthralled the crowd with some big hits of his own, giving his team a comfortable win.
Earlier, Bravo played a big role with the ball as well.
After being put into bat, the Bengal Tigers lost early wickets.
But Sunil Narine (40, 18 balls, 3 fours, 4 sixes) and Mohammad Nabi (46, 16 balls, 2 fours, 5 sixes) put their innings back on track.
The Tigers would have ended up with an even bigger total in Saturday's second game of the tournament, but Bravo (4/16) hit back, taking three wickets in the 9th over of the innings.
Muhammad Usman (16 not out, 5 balls, 2 sixes) and Aamer Yamin (3 not out) then shared 19 runs in the last over as the former played some massive shots.
But in the end, their efforts were not enough as Hales played a magnificent innings to help Maratha Arabians reach home in style.
Brief scores: Bengal Tigers 135/7 in 10 overs (Mohammad Nabi 46, Sunil Narine 40; Dwayne Bravo 4/16) lost to Maratha Arabians 138/3 in 9.1 overs (Alex Hales 87, Dwayne Bravo 27 not out; Mujeeb Ur Rahman 1/16) by seven wickets.
