As the Indian team’s sensational fightback Down Under kept trending on social media platforms, Rajeev Shukla, the vice-president of the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI), got trolled on Twitter on Monday.

Following India’s memorable draw against Australia in the third Test in Sydney, Shukla took to Twitter to praise Hanuma Vihari and R Ashwin for their fighting qualities as well as the knocks by Rishabh Pant, Cheteshwar Pujara, Rohit Sharma and Shubman Gill.

“The new real wall after Dravid in Indian cricket is @Hanumavihari and @ashwinravi99 They scored 62 runs in 259 balls. Good performance to get the match to draw. @RishabhPant17 & @cheteshwar1 played a superb knock. @ImRo45 & @RealShubmanGill as usual were good at crease. @BCCI,” he tweeted.

That should have been that but Shukla's second tweet left a bit of a bitter taste in the mouth.

“Actually, the middle order could have performed little better and we would have won the match. @BCCI,” he further tweeted.

And that seems to have triggered a massive backlash.

“Typical Indian parent,” one user wrote.

Indian cricket writer Boria Majumdar replied: “Rajivji you can’t be serious. This is the best we have seen them perform in a long time.”

One user said: “Instead of appreciating the efforts done by Team India. They are behaving like typical Indian parents.”

Another user was sarcastic. “Shukla ji has won many matches for India in similar situations. Once India needed 450 on the last day, Shukla ji opened the innings and scored 449 not out alone.”

One user was quite angered by the comment. “Are you serious? Four out of 11 players are injured, could have lost the match if Vihari, Ashwin and others didn't bat in complete defensive mode, your tail-enders aren't Jason Gillespie who can score a century and it's unfair to them for such expectations. What's your problem, sir?”

Another user said: “Sir I seriously wish you are given a chance to play and bat in the middle order.”
