The sun, the centre of our solar system, has also been at the centre of people's conversations recently, with a rare solar halo in UAE skies last week, and double solar eruptions causing a magnetic storm here on Earth in mid-April.
Now, UAE astronomers have captured the "intensification of solar activity." The clip, taken on April 29 afternoon, is a sped-up compilation of thousands of photos taken over half an hour.
The footage, which is seven seconds long, was taken using a specialised solar telescope – Hydrogen Alpha. The video shows the movement of the sun's flames, along with occasional projectiles that appear.

At the end of the clip, viewers can see a solar flare, appearing just above the centre of the sun. A sunspot, where the flare occurred, is also visible. According to Nasa, "solar flares are giant explosions on the sun that send energy, light and high speed particles into space."
The layer of the sun seen through this solar telescope, and shown in the clip, is the chromosphere, which lies above the photosphere that we see with the naked eye and that is visible through regular telescopes.
