A 62-year-old Russian woman was shocked to find a medical clamp had been left inside her body during her caesarean 23 years ago, and has been in acute pain since then.
Ezeta Gobeeva underwent caesarean in 1996 during which surgeons forgot the clamp inside her body. For over two decades, Gobeeva, who hails from Ossetia in Russia, has been in pain but doctors blamed it on liver problems and prescribed her painkillers.
But when her pain became unbearable, Gobeeva got an X-ray done which revealed the six inch surgical clamp in her abdomen. Narrating how the stunned radiographer told her that she has scissors inside her, Gobeeva said, "She showed me the X-ray image. I remember nothing after that. I was crying, I was in hysterics. For so many years I was tortured."
According to reports in Metro.co.uk, the clamp is still inside Gobeeva's body and needs to be extracted through an operation. "These pains were hellish and terrible. I am still on medication," she added. North Ossetia health ministry spokeswoman, Irina Abaeva, said,
"The investigation is in progress. The minister is personally supervising the situation. The authorities will pay for any charges to remove the clamp."
