The General Authority of Civil Aviation (GACA) of Saudi Arabia has announced that the domestic travelers in country will have to pay SR10 every time they make use of a local airport.
According to a report in the Saudi Gazette, the tax will be applicable from January 1, 2020. All of the domestic passengers that would enter or exit any of the airports in the country will be eligible for paying the tax.
The tax paid by the travellers would be considered as a charge for using the airport facilities and will in turn be used for the upkeep as well as the maintenance of the airports in the Kingdom.
The aviation authority has made it mandatory for all airlines using the domestic airports to collect the tax from the passengers when they arrive at and depart from the airports.
The airlines have also been warned of penalisation measures in case of non-adherence to this rule.
The tax amount is subjected to review once every three years considering the inflation rates prevailing in the country.
