In a horrific tragedy, seven women from a family were killed and five others, including two children, injured in an accident in Jazan region of Saudi Arabia on Thursday night.

According to a Saudi Gazette report, the accident occurred on Madaya-Sawarma Road when the car the family was traveling crashed into the rear of a truck with no taillights.

Witnesses said the family members were on their way to a wedding, the report added.

The Civil Defense units rushed to the scene after receiving a call about the accident and took out the bodies and the injured from the mangled wreckage of the cars, Lt. Col. Yahya Al Qahtani, spokesman for the Civil Defense in Jazan told the newspaper.

He said the Saudi Red Crescent volunteers transferred the injured to a nearby hospital.
