Saudi files complaint in UN against Iranian violations

The Kingdom called on the Iranian government to refrain from such actions.

The Kingdom of Saudi Arabia has submitted a memorandum of protest to the United Nations against repeated infringements and violations by Iranian boats and vessels in restricted areas of the oil fields and platforms, located in the territorial waters of the Kingdom.
The territorial waters in the Arabian Gulf are based on the maritime boundary line that was set up following an agreement between the two countries on October 2. The Kingdom called on the Iranian government to refrain from such actions.
Permanent Representative of the Kingdom to the United Nations, Ambassador Abdullah Bin Yahya Al Muallimi, said that despite the protest notes addressed to the Iranian government and to the UN Secretary-General, Iran has increasingly repeated the violations and abuses through boats and vessels.
Iran has violated the accord by sending boats and vessels - in the Kingdom's waters and restricted areas of oil rights announced as its coordinates and explained on the global navigational maps - into the territorial sea of the Kingdom and its exclusive economic zone in the Arabian Gulf, according to the Saudi Press Agency, SPA.
He stated that as a result of these repeated violations of Iranian boats and vessels, including what happened on November 17, 2016,  June 16, 2016, October 27, 2017, and on  December 21 2017. The competent authorities in the Kingdom have taken necessary measures against such violations and breaches, in accordance with the regulations in force, in the Kingdom.
Al Muallimi stressed that the Saudi government holds the Iranian government fully responsible for any damage that may arise as a result of these violations and abuses.

He also requested the Secretary-General to circulate this memorandum to all member states, as a United Nations document, as well as to publish it in the next edition of the Law of the Sea journal, expressing thanks to the Secretary-General of the United Nations.
