The new speed limits on some expressways will come into effect on Monday, February 19, Saudi Press Agency (SPA) quoted the Director of Public Relations in Public Security Col. Sami Bin Muhammad Al Shuwairikh as saying on Saturday.

The new speed limits will be 140 kph for small vehicles, 100 kph for buses and 80 kph for trucks.

Updated road signs will be installed where the new speed limits are in place and drivers have been warned to not exceed them.
The roads on which speed limits have been amended include Riyadh-Taif Road westwards, Riyadh-Taif Road eastwards, Riyadh-Qassim Road northwards, Qassim-Riyadh Road southwards, Makkah-Madinah Road northwards, Madinah-Makkah Road southwards, Madinah-Jeddah Road southwards and Jeddah-Madinah Road northwards, according to a report on Saudi Gazette.
The signboards showing speed limits will be put up on some highways, Col. Al-Shuwairikh told SPA.
Al Shuwairikh stressed motorists not to exceed speed limits and to strictly abide by instructions on signboards.
The Special Forces for Road Security said the new increased speed limit does not mean that motorists should drive at the maximum allowed limit.
