Housemaid's body sent home two years after death in Saudi

Sanasy Suppiah worked as a housemaid in Saudi for two decades.

The body of a woman who died over two years ago in Saudi Arabia was sent back to her home country Sri Lanka only recently. The delay in repatriation of the body was due to the absence of the woman's biometric details in the passport department's system as she was working without valid residency status.
According to the Saudi Gazette, Sanasy Suppiah, who worked as a housemaid in Saudi Arabia for two decades, was admitted to a Dammam-based hospital after she seriously fell ill in December 2015. Suppiah was reportedly left at the hospital by an unidentified woman and passed away on December 25, 2015.
All efforts of the hospital to get Suppiah's details went in vain as no one came to claim the body. Later, police who were investigating the matter, found her passport which had already expired in 2000 and it was revealed that Suppiah had been working without valid residency documents at the time of her demise. Further it was discovered that she had arrived in the Kingdom on a visa for housemaids and her residency permits/documents had not been processed by her employer.
The Sri Lankan Embassy was informed about the incident in 2016 which got in touch with Suppiah's family with the assistance of the community members in Saudi Arabia and the officials in India.
It took two years for the authorities to track down Suppiah's sponsor in Saudi, who had died earlier. The sponsor's family as quoted in the Saudi Gazette claimed to have nothing to do with the maid.
