As many as 7,000 carpets will be rolled out at the expansions and courtyards of the Prophet's Mosque from Thursday, Muharram 1, which marks the beginning of the Islamic New Year.
The Agency of the General Presidency for the Affairs of the Prophet's Mosque said the carpets will be spread out from the time of Fajr (morning) prayer of the Hijri New Year.
Adhering to safety measures and physical distancing in the wake of the pandemic, the agency said that only three worshippers will be allowed on each carpet and they will be required to maintain a distance of 180cm from other worshippers.
The move is in line with the directives of Sheikh Abdul Rahman Al Sudais, head of the Presidency for the Affairs of the Two Holy Mosques, the Saudi Gazette quoted SPA reports
