UAE airspace is closed to all air traffic coming from or going to the Qatari capital of Doha, the UAE's General Civil Aviation Authority (GCAA) said on Thursday.
The move goes further than a previously announced ban on direct flights between the UAE and Qatar, as well as restrictions announced Wednesday on Qatari passport-holders and holders of Qatari residence permits.
Additionally, on Wednesday the GCAA ordered the closure of Qatar Airways offices in the UAE, following similar announcements by Saudi Arabia's General Authority of Civil Aviation and by Bahrain.
The moves by Qatar's neighboring Arabian Gulf countries mean that flights serving Qatar are now limited to routes to its north via Iran and Kuwait. Previously, flights to Doha from Africa, India and Southeast Asia would have used shortcuts over Saudi and Emirati airspace
In a separate decision, Emirates Post Group has suspended all postal services to Qatar until further notice.
The decision also includes advising all customers that - apart from temporarily stopping the delivery of mail items to Qatar - undelivered items will be returned with corresponding postal fees according to EPG's procedures and regulations.
