Non-Omani professionals may soon be able to work in the Sultanate under temporary employment licence for a set period. Oman government is working on the new amendment to address business needs requiring expatriates for specific specialised professions.
The temporary work permit will be issued to professionals working in medical, academic, technical, consultancy, expertise and training fields, according to the Implementation Support and Follow-up Unit's annual report. The Ministry of Manpower will update these specialised jobs annually in accordance to the demand of the labour market.
Besides, the government is working to put a system in place that will ease labour mobility between companies registered within the same group or entity, Times of Oman reported.
"The long-term objective of the initiative is to unlock flexible movement of expats to help private enterprise in need of additional staff. After amendment to the new law, a company can move an expat worker to a group company for a period of three months after notifying the Ministry of Manpower," the report stated.
