Dr. Mishaal bin Fahm Al Salami, speaker of the Arab Parliament, has highly praised the joint humanitarian initiative of the United Arab Emirates and Saudi Arabia to allocate $200 million in a coordinated campaign of emergency humanitarian assistance in cooperation with United Nations organisations aimed at alleviating the suffering of the brotherly Yemeni people.

The Arab Parliament speaker emphasised that this aid reflects the Arab Coalition countries' keenness to support the legitimacy of Yemen under the leadership of Saudi Arabia to stand by Yemeni people in their difficult circumstances, and highlight the humanitarian role of the coalition countries.

He also lauded the continuous support provided by the UAE and Saudi Arabia to Yemenis, which over the past four years has reached more than $18 billion, especially in the humanitarian sector.

Dr. Al Salami blamed Al Houthis for the dire humanitarian situation of Yemeni people in areas under their control, calling on the international community to condemn the militias for obstructing and looting of humanitarian assistance to Yemen.

He stressed the need to pressure Al Houthis to comply with international humanitarian law and not to block access of relief assistance and disrupt humanitarian access to Yemeni civilians.
