Inmates share an Iftar with families

The Iftar, in line with the Zayed Humanitarian Work Day, was organised by the Punitive and Correctional Institutions Department in collaboration with the Shaikh Saud bin Saqr Al Qasimi Centre for Political Studies and the Saqr Charity Foundation.

Ras Al Khaimah - The Ras Al Khaimah Police organised an Iftar banquet for inmates' families "to bring happiness to them and ease their suffering" in the holy month of Ramadan.
The Iftar, in line with the Zayed Humanitarian Work Day, was organised by the Punitive and Correctional Institutions Department here in collaboration with the Shaikh Saud bin Saqr Al Qasimi Centre for Political Studies and the Saqr Charity Foundation.
Colonel Ahmed Salem Al Saloomi, Director of the Punitive and Correctional Institutions Department, said the 'inmate forum' is held annually to commemorate the "auspicious occasion" of the Zayed Humanitarian Work Day. "The function coincides with the 11th death anniversary of the late Shaikh Zayed bin Sultan Al Nahyan, the founder of the nation."
Family members of inmates were allowed to meet the inmates and share food in an "intimate atmosphere". "It is actually one of the most fruitful psychological therapies adopted here which gives inmates a chance to freely meet and share food with their families."
Col Saloomi said inmates usually suffer from psychological problems as they are not allowed to interact with people outside the department. "This Iftar function helped ease the inmates' suffering, provided them with care and bridged the gap between them and the society," he said. He noted that the RAK Police will launch more such humanitarian and social drives.
