As the holy month begins, Umm Al Quwain is ramping up inspections across the emirate to ensure health and safety of its residents.
The emirate's municipality will be monitoring the safety of food, while ensuring operations are being carried out in compliance with safety requirements and standards.
This includes overseeing transportation, storage, preparation, and cooking processes, as well as the quality and validity of materials used, and methods of display and handling.

Since fried foods are widely consumed during Ramadan, the department will focus on the quality of oils used for frying and verify the locations where food is stored and prepared.
In regards to roadside food, the authority will ensure that foods are properly covered, workers are adhering to personal hygiene standards, wearing gloves and head coverings, and possess valid occupational health cards.
The authority revealed preparations for the holy month had begun in early January through organising training courses for employees of the Food Inspection Department to address violations that affect public health.
These sessions included explaining the conditions for serving food in open areas and outdoor displays, highlighting the most common violations observed during Ramadan, and conducting theoretical exercises to assess inspectors’ understanding of outdoor display requirements.
The public has been urged to report any issues or inquiries to the Food Control Administration by calling their call center at 800898.
