The UAE's Fatwa Council has called on Muslims in the country to observe the crescent of Shawwal on Saturday evening, the 29th of Ramadan. Anyone who sees the crescent on the evening of March 29 is urged to contact the committee in order to submit their testimony.

The sighting of the Shawwal Moon marks the end of the holy month of Ramadan, and the beginning of the festival of Eid Al Fitr.

Countries across the globe are gearing up for the upcoming Moon sighting for Eid Al Fitr, which will most likely be on Saturday, March 29, 2025. However, UAE's Astronomy Centre said that sighting the crescent itself may not be possible in most parts of the world. It provided a map and a general area of where the moon can most likely be seen.

The centre said, "Sighting the crescent on this day will be impossible in the eastern parts of the world and not possible in the rest of the Arab and Islamic world using any observation methods, including the naked eye, telescopes, and astrophotography techniques."

As per astronomical calculations, the holy month of Ramadan is likely to last a full 30 days. In this event, the last day of Ramadan will be March 30. Hence, the first day of Eid is likely to fall on March 31.

UAE ministries announced last week that the Eid holidays for both the public and private sectors would begin on Shawwal 1 and end on Shawwal 3, 1446 AH (Islamic calendar months). A unified holiday policy implemented in the UAE for public and private sector workers ensures all employees get equal breaks throughout the year.
