A moon sighting committee has been formed in the UAE to sight the Shawwal crescent, it was announced on Wednesday.

The decision, which was issued by Sultan bin Saeed Al Badi Al Dhaheri, Minister of Justice, said the committee will meet after the Maghrib prayers on Friday, May 22, Ramadan 29, to spot the crescent.

If the crescent is sighted, the following day will be the first of Shawwal, marking the Eid Al Fitr festival.

All Shariah courts in the country have been urged to spot the moon and report their findings to the committee remotely.
