In Hiroshima, the city devastated by the first nuclear bomb, the biopic's Academy Awards success met a mixed reaction
It's come to recent light that Johnny Depp and now separated wife Amber Heard had no prenup for their 15-month marriage. Despite his ex-partner Vanessa Paradis urging him to sign one with Amber to protect her children's fortune, Johnny saw it as an insult to his and Amber's hippie love. He is worth 400 million. We've said it before and we'll say it again - stupid move, Johnny.
Allegedly, Lindsay Lohan is engaged to Egor Tarabasov, which is great, we love that she seems to be getting her life back on track. Egor though, is the son of billionaires and has decided that he doesn't want Lindsay to sign a prenup, allegedly. Good for Lindsay. Bad for Egor's family. They've threatened to cut him off if he doesn't make sure the actress signs on the dotted line, allegedly. Can you blame them?
Yeah, we might sound like cynics, but hear us out. A prenuptial agreement (otherwise known as a prenup) might seem like an extreme measure to take when you're ready to run down the isle with your significant other. But for many celebrities (or people with a lot of money) it's a necessary precaution. Sure, something about a prenup might possibly take the romance out of the whole, 'I'm in love, let's get married and live in a castle forever and ever' thing, but here's a dose of reality. Marriage isn't all romance, fairytales and trips to Paris and the Maldives (we've been stalking a lot of people on honeymoons and Paris and the Maldives seem to be popular destinations). Unfortunately, based on our research when the honeymoon ends and romance dwindles, you're left with nails, bolts, hammers and maybe a chainsaw to build a real and functional marriage. And when that doesn't always work out (be careful where you point that chain saw!) marriages crumble. So, if you're the richer of the two, if you're worth something ridiculous like 600 million, why should you have to give up half of your money to someone who didn't work as hard, or sacrifice just as much as you did?
A prenup doesn't mean that you or your partner get nothing at the end of a marriage. It simply means that you plan how much they would get depending on the circumstance of the breakdown and the marriage itself. Still not sure? Maybe world famous comedian Roseanne's story will convince you. When she was going to marry fellow comedian Tom Arnold, she actually fired her lawyers for suggesting she make him sign a prenup. Then, after four years of marriage they had a car crash of a divorce with Tom taking over $50 million of Roseanne's empire. She never really fully recovered financially after that.
There's nothing wrong with being in love, we are all for it. But you wouldn't jump out of a plane without making sure you're fully strapped with a parachute, right?
