The Pro League Committee earned a new achievement for Emirati football on a continental stage, after winning the 'Best Football Organisation' award in the Asian Sports Industry Awards (SPIA - Asia).
Abdulla Naser Al Junaibi, chairman of the PLC received the award during the third award ceremony that took place in Bangkok, Thailand on Tuesday.
The Arabian Gulf League beat competition from the continent's oldest and biggest domestic leagues to win the award. Six organisations had been shortlisted by the organising committee for this award; Japan's J-League, Saudi Pro League, Chinese Super League, Australia's A-League and the Thailand Football Federation.
The Sports Industry Awards (Asia) recognises excellence in various sectors of the sports industry across the continent in an annual celebration where winners in 23 categories are announced after being selected by a 20-member panel featuring sports industry experts in Asia.
This latest success for the UAE's Pro League is a testament to the continuous progress the league has achieved in recent years, earning the top spot in the AFC's domestic competitions ranking for three consecutive times in one year, with the Arabian Gulf League ranking number one in January, June and October 2017.
Al Junaibi paid tribute to the instructions and support of the UAE's wise leadership that prioritises sports and football and ensures all resources are available for the country's sports institutions to be successful.
The Chairman insisted the PLC is committed to continue its efforts to fulfil the vision of the nation's leaders in becoming the number one in all fields.
"Credit for this achievement goes to all parties involved in the Arabian Gulf League, including clubs, partners, sponsors and fans. Everyone contributed their share in developing the league into one of the continent's top competitions, overtaking some of the best leagues in Asia", commented Al Junaibi, adding, "Winning this award motivates us to continue working for more progress through the new strategic plan launched by the PLC in March 2017, aimed at delivering success and improving the professional system in UAE football to reach the highest level".
