Defending champions Mumbai Indians has left the Indian shores for Abu Dhabi on Friday. The Rohit Sharma-led team will be the third franchise to arrive in the UAE for the 2020 edition of the Indian Premier League.
The cash-rich league will be staged in the UAE from September 19 to November 10 after the disturbing rise in Covid-19 cases in India forced Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) to look for an alternative venue.
The UAE, having staged the first phase of the 2014 IPL, won the rights to host the most popular T20 league in the world.
Mumbai Indians, the four-time champions, shared images of their players as they boarded the flight from Mumbai to Abu Dhabi on Friday.
On Thursday, Rajasthan Royals, who won the inaugural edition of the tournament in 2008, two-time champions Kolkata Knight Riders and Kings XI Punjab, arrived in the UAE for the tournament.
The players and staff of all the teams are required undergo Covid-19 tests upon their arrival at the UAE airports before being put in a six-day quarantine.
Once they complete the six-day quarantine, teams can start their training sessions in the UAE for the tournament.
The ICC Academy in Dubai and Zayed Cricket Stadium in Abu Dhabi will provide the teams with world-class facilities to prepare the players for the big tournament in the UAE.
