All residents and tourists who wish to attend the gala will need to register.
Downtown Dubai is all set to host its famed New Year’s Eve (NYE) gala, with the highlight being the stunning Burj Khalifa fireworks and light & laser show. Access to Downtown Dubai will be through five gates around the area and all attendees must show the QR code to access the viewing areas. Here is all you need to know.
Pre-registration: Whether you are attending Emaar NYE 2021 in a hotel, at a restaurant or in the family viewing area, all guests must register via the U By Emaar app.
QR Codes: Every guest must have a QR code. There are six colours of QR codes for different categories. For hotel guests, the QR code is gold; for restaurants, it is blue; hotel restaurants, light blue; Dubai Opera, dark red; and for the public area — Sheikh Mohammed Bin Rashid Boulevard — the QR code is black.
Safety measures: Guests will be required to wear masks throughout and hand sanitisers will be available at each gate. One day before the event takes place, Emaar will carry out a complete sanitisation of Downtown Dubai. While there will be clear signage throughout Downtown Dubai directing people where to go, it’s important that guests familiarise themselves with the correct gate and zones. The Dubai Mall will remain open to shoppers, but access to the viewing areas will be closed.
Family viewing area: The family viewing areas on Sheikh Mohammed Bin Rashid Boulevard will give spectacular views of the Burj Khalifa. The boulevard will be divided into zones to ensure that social distancing is maintained.
Free access: The zones will open at 3pm on New Year’s Eve. Those who book to watch the show, which is free of charge, will be assigned a particular zone and gate from where to access.
Downtown residents: Downtown Dubai residents who wish to attend Emaar NYE 2021 must pre-register on the U By Emaar app. Use of the QR code for each resident is unlimited.
Restaurants and hotels: Guests looking to enjoy the show from the comfort of the many restaurants and hotels in Downtown Dubai must do so through the U By Emaar app. For those with existing bookings, guests are asked to register those with the U By Emaar app. — AFP file photo
Burj Park: The Burj Park area of Downtown Dubai will be reserved for residents of Burj Khalifa and Armani residents and hotel guests. Those residents planning to attend the show are asked to register through the U By Emaar app.
Parking and transport: The roads in Downtown Dubai will be closed from 4pm on NYE. There will be parking available on Sheikh Mohammed Bin Rashid Boulevard, in The Dubai Mall and The Dubai Mall Zabeel.
Online viewing: Those unable to attend the celebrations in Downtown Dubai can watch the show broadcast live from 8.30pm local time on mydubainewyear.com. In addition, Emaar has partnered with Zoom to host the celebrations live from Downtown Dubai in a global Zoom video call. Up to 50,000 people from around the world will be invited to tune-in and usher in 2021 on the first-ever New Year’s Eve celebration to be hosted on Zoom.
