Dubai's 100 per cent traffic fine discount scheme will end today, according to a statement issued by the police.
According to a brief release issued, Dubai Police reminded motorists that today is the last day to avail the year-long discount scheme that offered up to 100% waiver on traffic fines. The scheme ends on February 6, 2020.
On February 7, 2019, the Dubai Police launched the first-of-its-type initiative, according to which motorists who did not commit any violations for three months could get a 25 per cent discount on their fines. No violations for six months would entitle them to a 50 per cent discount. Keep driving well for nine months and you could get a 75 per cent discount and 100 per cent discount if you didn't commit any violation in a year.
The Dubai Police may extend the one-year traffic fine discount scheme if the final results are encouraging. This was announced by Major General Abdullah Khalifa Al Marri, the Commander-in-Chief of the Dubai Police, at an open meeting recently organised by the force.
The commander-in-chief added that the Ministry of Interior may implement the initiative in other emirates as well.
A 50 per cent discount on all traffic fines was announced in the emirate of Ajman, and will come into effect on February 16, 2020. The scheme includes all fines issued for motorists before the date of January 31, 2020.
Motorists, who have incurred no traffic fines during the duration of the scheme - in the past year - can avail 100% discount on Friday (February 7, 2020)
