SPAIN. Even this place’s name is authentically Spanish, so it makes sense the food follows suit. Lola Taberna Española, located at TRYP by Wyndham Al Barsha, serves up vibrant dishes, which are only matched by the dining room’s equally flamboyant atmosphere. Hailing from the Iberian heartlands, chef Daniel Delgado and manager Lloy Rubio have gone all out to provide a slice of their home for you. The largest selection of Spanish charcuterie in Dubai and the arroz caldoso de bogavante, made with lobster, are just two reasons you have to visit.

GREECE. Great cheese, better honey and, yes, smashing plates do conjure up memories of long summer nights spent hiking round Greece, which you can relive (even the plate smashing) at the newly-opened Aiza at The Pointe. Talented staff who enjoy taking part in an impromptu dance show or two will furnish your table with tastes of the Aegean including some of the finest cheese parcels in truffle sauce we have tasted and a lamb shank Ladorigani that has to be sampled to be believed.

FRANCE. Wednesday is ladies’ night at Couqley French Bistro in JLT with free-flowing grape beverages, a signature cocktail of the night, and a main for Dh99 from 6pm. Value like that cannot be ignored especially when there’s steak tartare and moules frites on the menu. Oh la la indeed.

ITALY. Timo’s elevated design concept and specially curated menu aims to celebrate the best of the world’s most famous cuisine. Has it risen to the challenge? Situated at Al Jaddaf Rotana Suites Hotel, Timo directly translates to ‘thyme’ in Italian signifying they mean business. We have to say stand-out dishes including shrimp saffron risotto with crushed tomatoes, veal scaloppini with lemon, capers and linguine Napolitano; and squid ink pasta with creamy mascarpone, prawns, cherry tomato and ruccola, provide more than a fair representation of what you’d find abroad.

PORTUGAL. Often overlooked when on European dining excursions, Portugal has given the world so much including Tempura batter and even fish and chips, yet never demands the credit. Tasca at the Mandarin Oriental Jumeirah looks to redress the balance. Chef Jose Avillez brings a corner of the Algarve to Dubai with garlic and chilli prawns, ovos a Professor Seculo XX1 (eggs, chorizo and breadcrumbs) and braised blue fin tuna in a herb sauce with cashew nuts among others.
