Dark Mode : This has been the much talked about feature on WhatsApp and has been spotted in the recent beta versions of both iOS and Android versions. Dark Mode is set to debut as Dark Theme in an official roll out and will allow users to invert the colour scheme of the app. According to a recent report, Dark Theme will also include a battery saver mode that will automatically turn on Dark Mode depending upon the battery life of the device.
Self-destructing messages: The feature will function in a different manner than how it was earlier believed to be. The self-destructing messaging is aimed at helping users automatically “clean up” older chats to help make space for more storage. The feature is likely to come in handy for group chat users.
WhatsApp Payments: Last year WhatsApp started allowing users to make UPI-based peer-to-peer payments. However, the official roll-out of WhatsApp Pay did not happen after due to local regulatory roadblocks. The feature was earlier expected to launch in India in late 2019, but it did not.
Deeper Messenger, Instagram integration: Earlier this year WhatsApp and Instagram started showing branding “…by Facebook” and the move was seen as an effort to interlink Facebook-acquired top products with its own products. CEO Mark Zuckerberg, however, assured his social networking platforms will focus on the privacy of users.
Advertisements: WhatsApp has remained an ad-free platform unlike Instagram and Facebook. However, this is likely to change in 2020 as Facebook may bring advertisements to the Status section. The company has already confirmed the imminent integration of advertisements in WhatsApp.
