An anti-terrorism court (ATC) in Lahore on Tuesday sent a suspect in the motorway gang-rape case to jail on judicial remand for 14 days.

Shafqat Ali alias Bagga was presented with his face covered amid strict security before trial judge Arshad Hussain Bhutta.

A deputy prosecutor-general requested the court to shift the suspect to jail on judicial remand for identification parade while submitting an application for the purpose.

He stated that the accused was not nominated in the FIR but his DNA has matched with the samples obtained from the victim.

He contended that as per law, an identification parade of the accused was a mandatory requirement.

The court later sent the accused to jail on judicial remand for 14 days and directed the authorities to produce him on September 29.

The court directed the jail authorities to make sure that the identity of the accused could not be disclosed to other inmates and other persons.

The court also directed the investigation officer to arrange the identification parade as soon as possible.

Shafqat Ali was arrested on Sunday night from a house in Depalpur district of Punjab.
