They destroyed furniture and burnt a large photo of a ferry, before the riot police intervened and used tear gas to restore order. Relatives of the victims have been frustrated by the lack of information about their loved ones. Most of the passengers were Egyptians working in Saudi Arabia, and others were pilgrims returning from the holy city of Makkah.

The anger of the relatives, understandable in such a situation, has grown even more as some details have been released, but much still remains vague and unclear. It has been reported that the rescue mission was launched several hours after the ferry sank. Now, why was this so is a question that clearly needs answers.

Besides, the crew are accused of ignoring warnings for evacuation after a fire broke out on board. One survivor had also complained of the alarm system not working and others said there were not enough lifeboats and lifejackets for all the passengers. Now, these are not minor accusations that can be brushed aside. They need to be looked into seriously to clear the doubts and misgivings of the aggrieved. The full picture of the tragedy must come out soon.
