Dubai's stride towards achieving more in clean energy sector proves the statement by His Highness Shaikh Mohammed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Crown Prince of Abu Dhabi and Deputy Supreme Commander of the UAE Armed Forces, who said the nation will celebrate the exporting of the last barrel of oil as the UAE would be fully prepared for the situation.
Despite having the second-largest oil reserves in the world, the UAE is leading the global efforts on clean and renewable energy. Dubai's announcement to install solar panels on all Dubai roofs by 2030 is a major step towards this end.
For every roof in Dubai to have a solar panel and contribute to the energy production in the emirate is not just a dream. His Highness Shaikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice-President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai, has already announced practical steps to achieve this dream. It includes Dubai Clean Energy Strategy 2050, which aims to make the emirate a global hub of clean energy and green economy by attracting more global investors in this sector to Dubai by providing low-cost loans and tax-free business zone.
Dubai proves it's a real global leader by announcing the target of obtaining 75 per cent of its energy requirements from relatively clean sources, which include natural gas, solar, clean coal and nuclear sources. No other country has made such a brave target and Dubai's precedence of achieving the set targets within deadline makes sure that in the area of clean energy too, there is a no looking back.
While the world is struggling hard to face the climate change issue and to reach a consensus, Dubai's goal to become the city with least carbon footprint by 2050 shows our leaders are not just living in the present, but they are strategically creating an innovative vision for the future.
