In a terrifying incident, a 22-year-old Slovenian woman has been arrested for fraud after she was found guilty of sawing off her own hand as part of an insurance scam.
Julija Adlesic aimed to gain more than 1 million euros (Dh4.36 million or $1.16 million) in payouts and claimed she lost her hand while cutting branches.
A court in the capital Ljubljana found that Adlesic and her boyfriend had made internet searches about artificial hands days before the incident. The duo were found to have intentionally left the severed hand behind rather than bringing it to hospital to ensure the disability was permanent.

Prosecutors said this was proof that the injury was intentional.

However, authorities recovered the severed hand in time to sew it back on and Adlesic and her several relatives were arrested following the incident in 2019.

She now faces two years in prison, while her boyfriend has been given a three-year sentence and his father was also given a one-year suspended sentence, reported BBC.
