The online fraud victim lodged a complaint with police.

Falling prey to a fake online retailer, a woman from Bengaluru, India, downloaded the app to buy a clothing item worth Rs800 (Dh41 approx) but was duped of Rs80,000 (Dh4,100 approx) instead.

The online fraud victim lodged a complaint with police stating that she intended to buy a dress and downloaded the app not knowing it was fake. She made an online purchase through the app and bought the item worth Rs800.

However, when the item did not arrive even after a few days of her placing the order, she contacted their customer care. Not realising it was a trap, the person posing as a customer care executive asked the woman to fill up a form seeking her bank details, a link for which was sent to her phone.

After she filled up the form, the customer care executive called her up and asked her to share one-time password (OTP) to complete the formalities. As soon as the woman divulged the OTP, her bank account was debited with Rs79,600 in four installments.

According to police, people must realise that not all apps hosted by Google Play Store and Apple's iOS are genuine. Cyber experts repeatedly warn netizens to be wary of downloading random apps that may contain malware and spyware, reported Times Now.
