An Emirati businessman has taken it upon himself to set an example for the community and take matters of cleanliness into his own hands.
DMCC executive chairman Ahmed Bin Sulayem posted several images on his personal Instagram account, with a message for the public:
"I would like to see the Red Diamond Building management respecting their own rules a little bit more than what I have seen.
"I am a bit disappointed," he added, "hope when I visit again to clean up the area after doing that to a few other clusters here, they would taken (sic) serious note of this by keeping the area cleaner and more importantly - safer - for our community.
"We can't afford any fire accidents from this," he concluded.
The post ends with several hashtags, including #nocigarettes, #mydmcc, #yearofzayed, and #carrefouruae.
Bin Sulayem's photographs show him garbed in phosphorescent vest labeled 'cleaning team', latex gloves, serviceable boots and green striped polo shirt.
He plucks cigarette butts, plastic bags, and other rubbish from a green area, a parking lot outside of Carrefour market, and areas marked with signs prohibiting smoking monitored by CCTV cameras.
His action was applauded by several people, including one shot_of_sorts, who said: "Wow. that's truly leading by example. crazy number of overcrowded shared units. fire hazards with cigarette butts being thrown out of balconies and landing in the balconies of apartments in lower floors."
