A tenant in London claimed their letting agent was secretly living in their house after he came over on pretext of a random inspection.
One of the members of the shared house revealed on Reddit's Ask UK that they had assumed the agent had left after the "inspection" but were horrified to discover he was living in the house for two days, reported Mirror.co.uk
Seeking advice on the bizarre situation, the unnamed tenant said they discovered the agent was still in the house when they saw a light had been left on in their spare room and the door was locked.
As the tenants did not have a spare key to open the door and switch off the light, they messaged him to return. That's when he messaged them back saying he was still in the house.
The tenant wrote on Reddit: 'I texted asking him to come and turn the light off and he admitted that he was here in the house! After we confronted him, he proceeded to lie and say 'he'd informed us all that he was staying here for a few days'.
The agent falsely told them that he was going to live in the house on a permanent basis as he had signed a contract and paid deposit to the landlords living next door. However, the claims were refuted by them.
After the confrontation the agent left but locked the spare room. Worried tenants believe he will return as he has a spare key to the room, but are more scared of contracting coronavirus from the stranger.
The tenants also revealed they called the council and the police non-emergency number seeking advice on the matter and discovered the issue was "more complex".
The post went viral after it was shared on Twitter.
