A passenger onboard a plane at the Mianyang Nanjiao Airport in China opened the emergency exit moments after it landed as he wanted to get fresh air.
The Chinese passenger said he wanted to open the plane's window as he was feeling too hot inside, but accidentally deployed an evacuation slide. The man, surnamed Chen, has been detained for 15 days and the Chinese low-budget carrier Lucky Air is reportedly seeking compensation from him, according to Guancha.cn reports quoted in Daily Mail.
Chen was quoted as saying, "It was so stuffy, so hot on the plane, I just pushed down on the window handle beside me. When the door fell out, I panicked."
The incident took place on April 27 after the Lucky Air flight number 8L9720 took off at Sanya in Hainan Province in south China and landed in Mianyang after a two hour and 40 minutes flight, according to schedule, reported Guancha.cn.
Later, Mianyang Nanjiao Airport released a statement confirming that a passenger opened an emergency door on the left of the aircraft while other passengers were preparing to leave because the cabin was 'too hot and stuffy'.
Chen was immediately detained by airport police and Mianyang City's civil aviation administration stated that the incident caused major delays as well as manpower and equipment expenses costing more than 100,000 yuan (Dh57,744 approx).
