It was double happiness for a North Carolina man battling cancer, as he was on his way to hospital for last treatment when he discovered he had won $141,000 in lottery after taxes.
Ronnie Foster won a mere $5 on a scratch card but decided to buy two more and ended up taking $141,000 in lottery. Foster, who is battling colon cancer, was on his way to hospital for his last chemotherapy when he discovered he had hit a jackpot, reported BBC.
Foster had two tickets with him from which the first ticket had no winnings. But as he scratched off the second, he realised he had won the lottery. "I saw all those zeroes and froze. Winning this made it my lucky day," Foster said.
He told The North Carolina Education Lottery that he was already happy because he was on his way to the local hospital for his final round of chemotherapy. Foster is a retired transportation department worker and said he plans to use some of the money to pay medical bills.
While he has health insurance, Foster said there were still costs for the cancer treatment. "This will make it a whole lot easier," the winner said.
