India's National Digital Library caters to students in all languages

New Delhi - Nearly 40.6 million text resources have been made available through digitisation

A National Digital Library has been set up by the Human Resource Development (HRD) ministry for all students in the country. The library includes subjects such as elementary education, law, medicine and engineering. It provides more than 40.5 million text resources.
Union HRD Minister Ramesh Pokhriyal Nishank said: "This library is for students from all over the country. This portal covers all subjects from primary to post-graduate level. For example, it covers subjects like social sciences, literature, law, medicine, etc." The educational material at the National Digital Library is also available in various regional languages.
Nearly 40.6 million text resources have been made available through digitisation in the digital library, meeting the needs of students of all classes and age groups.
A major feature of this library is the diversity of its text content. Students from each state can study books here in their own dialect or language.
PhD, M.Phil students and others pursuing higher education have been most affected by the lockdown. However, tens of thousands of journals and books are now available online to such students.
The HRD ministry acknowledged that the library is essential for students engaged in research. Therefore, online books are also being provided to students pursuing higher education through another digital platform ‘Shodh Sindhu', which provides high quality research material.
Shodh Sindhu provides 10,000 national and international journals as well as over 3.1 million books to the students through the e-platform of the HRD ministry.
