Tony-award winning actress and Philippine pride Lea Salonga has just announced she will soon be appearing in an episode of the acclaimed musical-comedy series Crazy-Ex Girlfriend.
In a recent post on Twitter, Salonga confirmed she will be part of the show's Season 1 Finale.
Crazy Ex-Girlfriend lead Rachel Bloom confirmed the news backstage at the Beverly Hilton Hotel after winning Best Actress for a Television Series Musical or Comedy at the 73rd Globe Awards.
Bloom told Entertainment Weekly that Salonga's guest appearance was important to the show because her co-star, Filipino-American actor Vincent Rodriguez, plays a Filipino character.
"One of our characters happens to be Filipino so when we realised no one else had even made the effort to show a Filipino family on an American comedy, it taught me a lot about Filipino culture. It's also taught me really about how important diversity is, if you want to tell a new story," she said.
In her acceptance speech, Bloom revealed that the pilot for Crazy Ex-Girlfriend had been rejected by six networks in one day before it was finally picked up by The CW, a joint venture between CBS Corporation and Warner Bros. Entertainment.
Meanwhile, Salonga is currently in New York and starring in the ongoing Broadway musical Allegiance together with Asian-American actors George Takei and Telly Leung.
Miss Universe 2015 Pia Wurtzbach recently caught Allegiance and was all praises for Lea's performance in a tweet.
