It’s so cold is some parts of the UAE that water is freezing over. Literally.
Storm Centre (@Storm_centre) tweeted a video on Sunday, showing sheets of ice that had formed in a tank. The video was apparently recorded in a place called Al Jeeah in Al Ain.
Al Ain has been witnessing a cold wave, with one area called Raknah recording a sub-zero temperature on Sunday. After recording -2 degrees Celsius, icicles formed near some shrubs in the area.
Explaining the sudden dip over the past few days, a weather expert from the National Centre of Meteorology (NCM) had told Khaleej Times: “Cold air mass moving from east and northeast is approaching our country, over the desert. (It) reaching Al Ain has led to all stations recording low temperatures.
“The temperature dipped to below zero in Raknah because the area is like a wadi (valley). The air in this area gets cooler than any other. There is cold wind, too. So, Raknah gets colder than any other place.”
According to the NCM, parts of the country recorded near-freezing temperatures on Sunday.
