Thick fog covered almost all the parts of Abu Dhabi on Saturday morning, affecting visibility. The National Centre for Meteorogly (NCM) said the fog formation started late on Friday will continue till 11am on Saturday and authorities have warned motorists to drive carefully.

The Abu Dhabi Police announced activation of speed reduction to 80kmph on major external roads to ensure safety of motorists. Through their social media posts, the police reminded all drivers to comply with the instructions shown on smart towers. Speed limits are automatically reduced on Abu Dhabi roads and highways during adverse weather or foggy conditions.

According to the police speed reduction system has been activated on Abu Dhabi - Dubai Road, Seih Al Sedirah - Kizad Road, Abu Dhabi - Al Ain Road, Abu Dhabi - Sweihan and Trucks Road. Drivers were urged to increase the distance between vehicles to avoid accidents and to never overtake/change lanes in low visibility conditions.

Sharing today's weather, the NCM said it is expected to be partly cloudy to cloudy at times over some coastal and eastern areas with chances of light rainfall.

The temperature today could hover between 23°C to 28°C in the coastal areas and between 23°C to 28°C in the internal areas.

Moderate to fresh north-westerly winds in general, causing dusty conditions over the internal and the exposed areas, may reduce horizontal visibility at times.

The sea will be rough in the Arabian Gulf and slight in the Oman sea.
