Tropical Storm Maha has intensified into a Category 1 Cyclone, Khaleej Times can confirm.
The National Centre of Meteorology (NCM), said the estimated wind speed around the centre of the storm is 90 to 100kmph, "accompanied by intense convective rainy clouds".
It has intensified into a Category 1 Cyclone and is expected to further increase into Category 2 in the next 72 hours. The wind speed at the centre of the storm then is expected to be 150-160kmph.
NCM has also confirmed that Cyclone Maha will impact the UAE "with rough seas and water surge expected over the east coast during the period of high tide from Monday".
Cities like Kalba (Sharjah), Khor Fakkan (Sharjah) and Dibba (Fujairah) lie on the east coast.
