Seven Emirati families evacuated from flooded homes in UAE

Seven Emirati families, whose homes were ravaged by the recent flash floods in Ras Al Khaimah, have been evacuated by the Emirates Red Crescent.
Two families were based in Fahleen area while the rest were in Shaam, said Mansur Al Naqbi, director of Red Crescent's branch in RAK. All their houses were close to a flooded valley.
"Their houses have been flooded and the heavy rains destroyed their properties and household items," said Al Naqbi.
The families were provided with a two-day accommodation at a hotel in the emirate, along with food, water and other supplies.
All the Red Crescent teams across the country are ready to extend their support to meet people's needs and ensure their safety, especially during emergency situations, Al Naqbi said.
"Our services are being provided to everyone, Emirati nationals and residents alike," he said.
As heavy rains hit the emirate, a total of 984 emergencies have been reported at the RAK department of public works.
Speaking to Khaleej Times, Ahmed Hamad Al Shehi, an advisor to the department, said: "These include reports on accumulated rainwater, uprooted trees, falling rocks, cut and flooded roads, flooded houses and road landslides."
The department has deployed 27 tankers, along with 10 fixed pumps and 43 mobile pumps, to clear all the water that had accumulated on the roads. he added.
"Our tanker staff drivers have had to do some 783 trips to unclog roads and roundabouts of around 3.9 million gallons of water," said Al Shehi.
The areas that were most affected by the downpour included Al Fahleen, Shaam, Khuzam, Al Dhait and Al Jolan, he said.
