Islands, Northern Emirates receive highest rain volume

Dubai - High volume of rain was experienced in most areas of the northern emirates.

Abu Dhabi's coastal areas and two localities in Fujairah received the highest amount of rainfall when the country was drenched from Tuesday (December 10) until Wednesday  (December 11) afternoon, according to a 24-hour monitoring released by the UAE weather bureau.
Dalma Island topped the list with 47.8mm of rain, followed by Al Ghuwaifat, in the far west district of Abu Dhabi, with 36.7mm of rainfall, based on the National Center of Meteorology (NCM) bulletin.
Fujairah's Dibba city and Dadna, a village located 45 kilometres of the emirate's city centre, accumulated 31.4mm and 30.4mm of rain respectively while Makassib, another coastal area in Abu Dhabi, was drenched with 29.1mm of rainwater.
High volume of rain was also experienced in most areas of the northern emirates, including Khor Fakkan with 27.1mm of precipitation; Al Tawiyan in Fujairah, 21.5mm of rain; while Jebel Jais down to Mebreh Mountain received from high of 24mm to 17.8mm of showers.
Sharjah's Mleiha desert area got 15.8mm of rainfall while Ajman Corniche received 15.5 of rain and Al Marjan Island in Ras Al Khaimah was soaked with 12.3mm of water.
Fallaj Al Muwallah in Umm Al Quwain got 14mm of rain and the wadis in the northern region also collected heavy amount of water as Wadi Shaha got 13.2 of water.
Commuters who ply the Dubai-Sharjah Road daily experienced a wet Wednesday. Water logging  was recorded in many areas and heavily drenched were Business Bay and Downtown Dubai, with the area around Burj Khalifa collecting 15mm of rain.
Weather forecast
Following a wet Wednesday, the UAE's official weather bureau said Thursday  (December 12) will be humid until Friday morning as fog and mist are expected to form over internal areas.
The sky is overcast on Thursday as low clouds will appear especially over the sea and some coastal and western areas but it is unlikely to rain.
Clouds, however, will increase gradually over sea and west then extend to some coastal and northern areas with chance of rainfall on Friday. The wind will be and freshening at times with speed between 15 to 25 km/hour with top knot, reaching 38 km/hour.
The waters will be moderate becoming rough at times in the Arabian Gulf and mostly moderate in Oman Sea.
Saturday will be partly cloudy and some convective clouds that produce rain may appear over sea and far northern areas.
There is a probability of some rainfall on Sunday as clouds will appear over sea, islands and some coastal areas. Beachgoers are advised to take caution as the sea will become rough at times in the Arabian Gulf and moderate in Oman Sea.
